The principal purpose of the Adventist Health Ministries Department is to bring physical and spiritual healing to the peoples of the countries comprising the East African Union territory.The basis for the health message is the Word of God," He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions." Psalms 107:20

The servant of the Lord has compared medical missionary work to the right arm of the message.Ellen White states,"Beware how you place yourself in opposition to the work of health reform.It will go forward; for it is theLord's means of lessening the suffering in our world and purifying His people"-Counsels on Diet and Foods pg 38.

The East African Union Health Ministries Department has for its purpose:

  1. The education of every church member so that he/she can develop a lifestyle that adheres to the principles of health and temperance and make use of the natural remedies that God has provided for our well being.
  2. Every pastor should be a health educator(MH p143) and every church should be a better living center in which the riches of our health message are taught(MH pg 144)
  3. Every church member should understand our health message, making it a part of his/her lifestyle andthus becomea witness to its healing power-Ministry of Healing pg 147,149
  4. The lessening of suffering in the world. This accomplished by our medical and dental institutions, hospitals,community centers, better living centers and dispensaries placed at strategic locations throughout the Union.Eachof these institutions should also be centers of evangelism and health education
  5. The training and encouragement of health professionals to bring information and help to every community. "Relieve the sick and afflicted, to awaken a spirit of inquiry, to disseminate light and to advance reform." Testimonies vol 7 pg 104
  6. To liase and cooperate with the education department in health teaching institutions to enhance education in health and healing.
  7. The church leadership at all levels and the church membership to stop stigmatization and discriminatjion of the people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and care for them by showing love and compassion in the church and community.

To carry on the healing and teaching ministry of Jesus Christ(making man whole) by promoting healthful living, preventing diseases and compassionately caring for the sick in EAU Territory for accomplishment of the church mission

East African Union Health Ministries Department maintains a health membership that upholds,lives,maintains and practices principles of health that enable it to carry out the mission of the church effectively and efficiently.

To equip and empower the church membership in East African Union with the principles of healthful living and to have Health Institutions that promote and provide quality Health Care Services for effective achievement of its mission
